Compliance upgrade, improvement and safety enhancement for the football pitch and multi-purpose sports facility in Cerro al Volturno - Funded by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport under the "Cantieri in Comune" programme
The redevelopment and transformation project of the Municipal Sports Centre in Cerro al Volturno was driven by the goal of revitalising key community services, particularly those related to sports and tourism.
The project was designed to enhance, expand and improve the range of sports facilities through an integrated architectural and landscape intervention, creating a large Sports Park that serves as a hub for meeting, socialising and community gathering. The project involved the refurbishment of existing fields and the construction of a new 5-a-side football pitch and a boules court. The entire area was upgraded with improved landscaping, pathways, facilities and systems, all prioritising energy efficiency.
The facilities were built using materials compliant with regulatory requirements to ensure certification and the proper conditions for hosting competitive events with spectators. The existing football field was upgraded to meet FIGC (Italian Football Federation) standards, allowing its certification to host semi-professional championship matches.
The regulatory playing area was enclosed with a new metal fence, 4 metres high on the side adjacent to the stands and 6 metres on all other sides. The pitch itself was upgraded with next-generation synthetic turf featuring high-performance biomechanical properties, laid over a sub-base compliant with the FIGC’s LND Standard Regulation. A new 5-a-side football pitch was constructed adjacent to the refurbished 11-a-side football field, as described above. Measuring 20m x 40m, it was equipped with a lighting system to enable night-time use. The synthetic turf surface, was installed over a sand sub-base, ensuring year-round usability and optimal performance even under adverse weather conditions. The project also included the construction of a reinforced concrete structure with stepped seating, serving both to retain the embankment of the main football field and to function as a spectator seating stand for the 5-a-side pitch. The sports complex also features a new refreshment area, providing a space for athletes and visitors looking to enjoy their time at the centre.
